The Holiday Season is upon us, and that means one thing: a lot of nights out. Christmas parties at work, Winter Wonderland date ideas, unofficial nights out with friends, and then finally the big day itself.
With so many social interactions planned, sometimes sprung on you, it helps to look as good as you feel as often as you can. But doesn’t that take hard work and entire wardrobe overhaul?
You’d be surprised. With a few rules in mind, you can look like the best thing to hit the high street. And it’s all about using what’s already in your wardrobe in bold new ways. Read our guide for all the tips.
Go wild with color
The easiest way to stand out is with color. And winter is the time for bold colors. Put away the pastels and embrace being the street’s disco ball.
Go to your wardrobe and pull out everything you have that makes you hold your hand over your eyes – and put together your outfit. There are no rules from there, except one: push out of your comfort zone. If you don’t know if that neon green top goes with the deep purple of your trousers, you’ve made a good outfit, and you’re ready to hit the town.
Mix textures
While you’re in that wardrobe, even if you’re pulling out everything that is the same color, pull out every texture and fabric you can find. The next move in making a statement with your outfit is to mix up textures.
Wear your woolly jumper with your slick leather trousers or mix suede with snakeskin. It is a quick and easy way to show you’ve put deep though into your outfit and that you know what you are doing. If that’s too bold for you, you can make it more subtle by mixing textures amongst the same color.
You can find a beautiful range of statement pieces with various textures at Luella Fashion.
Match it up
If this doesn’t prove there are no hard and fast rules to fashion, what will? You’re about to be told to do the exact opposite of what the previous post said: don’t mix, but match.
Ultimately the rule is actually to go all in. If you want to mix it up, do that, but don’t do it by halves. If you want to match, you will stand out as a coordinated fashionista, with the wardrobe to back it up.
Take some inspiration from Clueless’ Cher, who is known for her iconic yellow plaid skirt and blazer, which has never really gone out of style. Match up patterns in your wardrobe for an instantly high fashion look.
You can even match up colors. Don’t get scared. We know that unless you buy them together trying to get the same shade on anything is impossible. No, we’re thinking monochrome. Pick one color and go all in with it. Those maroon trousers you love will go great with a red top and those crimson heels. You’ll make people stop in traffic.
